Welcome to Metabo ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and personal health information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our metabolic health tracking application ("the App"). By using Metabo, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

• Account Information: Email address, password (securely encrypted with scrypt hashing), display name, and optional date of birth.
• Security Information: Security question answers (encrypted) that you set up for password recovery.
• Health Data: Meals, macronutrient intake, exercise logs, step counts, symptom logs, digestion logs, medication records, and menstrual cycle tracking data that you voluntarily enter.
• Health Profile: Health conditions (e.g., PCOS, diabetes, Crohn's disease, hypertension), dietary preferences, allergies, and fitness goals you provide.
• Camera and Photo Data: When you use the food scanning feature, we access your device camera or photo library to capture images of food, receipts, or barcodes. These images are sent to our AI service for nutritional analysis. We do not store the original images on our servers after processing.
• AI Interaction Data: Food photos, descriptions, and health context you submit for AI-powered nutritional analysis and health insights.
• Payment Information: Subscription and billing data processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your credit card details directly.
• Usage Data: App interaction data such as features used, pages visited, and preferences set.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and personalize the Metabo health tracking experience.
• To generate AI-powered nutritional estimates and health insights based on your conditions and dietary preferences.
• To analyze food images from your camera or photo library for macro and calorie estimation.
• To track your progress and display trends over time.
• To process subscription payments securely.
• To authenticate your identity and secure your account.
• To improve our services and develop new features.

4. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal or health data to third parties. We may share limited information with:

• OpenAI (AI Service Provider): Food images and descriptions are sent to OpenAI's API for nutritional analysis. This data is processed per OpenAI's API data usage policies and is not used to train their models.
• Apple (Payment Processor): On iOS, subscription payments are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. We do not have access to your payment card details. Apple's privacy policy governs payment data handling.
• Health Buddies: If you use the buddy feature, limited progress data (daily summaries) is shared only with your approved health partner via invite code.

We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties not listed above.

5. Camera and Photo Library Access

Metabo requests access to your device's camera and photo library solely for the purpose of scanning food items, restaurant receipts, and product barcodes for nutritional tracking. Before scan data is sent to OpenAI for analysis, we ask for your consent in-app and explain what data is shared. You can revoke camera/photo permissions at any time through your device's Settings. The app will still function without camera access, but scanning features will be unavailable.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including: passwords encrypted with scrypt hashing, security question answers encrypted before storage, secure HTTPS connections for all data transmission, and secure PostgreSQL database storage. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Your health data is retained as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Profile > Delete Account in the app. Account deletion removes your account and associated health logs from our systems. If you need assistance, contact admin@metaboai.net.

8. Your Rights

• Access and review all personal data we hold about you.
• Export your personal data (CSV export available for premium users).
• Correct inaccurate data in your profile or logs at any time.
• Request complete deletion of your account and all associated data.
• Revoke camera and photo library permissions through your device settings.
• Cancel your subscription at any time.

9. Children's Privacy

Metabo is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly.

10. Medical Disclaimer

Metabo is a wellness and nutritional tracking tool only. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition. All AI-generated nutritional estimates, health insights, and suggestions are for informational purposes only and should not be considered medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making changes to your diet, exercise routine, medications, or health regimen.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the app with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Metabo after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
